Cult expression of mature white Rioja from über-traditionalists "López de Heredia". Their crazy cellars, right in the heart of Haro's Barrio de la Estación have to be seen to be believed, with endless atmospheric caves offering the perfect conditions for slowly maturing their trademark elegant wines. When I was last there I chanced across a load of 1970 white - "not ready yet". They are also one of the few producers to make their own barrels on site.
This wine is not for everyone, with my most recent tasting notes as follows "Quite an oxidative nose but very interesting, full of quince and honey and walnuts. Palate drier than the nose suggests, an acquired taste maybe, but I'm glad someone is still doing it."
