Marqués de Riscal Gran Reserva (Rioja)

Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest wineries in the region, but one which has also always had a pioneering and innovative edge, perhaps best exemplified by their stunning Frank Gehry building.

But Gran Reservas are not flash modern creations but rather the ultimate old-school expression of all that is good about Rioja wine. Sort of like a great uncle in a tweed jacket, always there, slightly shy at the back of the photo but with a million interesting stories to tell if you give him a chance.

Made from vineyards over 30 years old, this blend of Tempranillo, Graciano y Mazuelo matures for 30 - 36 months in American oak, before resting another 3 leisurely years in bottle before release. Probably the most traditional of Marqués de Riscal's wines, this is all warmth, leather and spice with a very long finish.
