Rafael Palacios comes from a family with a big winemaking tradition and has set up shop in the Valdeorras region of Galicia, North West Spain. He is a man on a mission and that mission is no less than to try and craft Spain's best white wine!
The grape grown round these dramatic valleys is Godello. Not famous outside of Spain, amongst wine geeks it is fast being appreciated as an amazing new addition to Spain's top flight - in fact to the world's top flight, having being compared to white Burgundy by leading UK wine critic, Jancis Robinson.
Rafa makes a range of these Godello whites from high-altitude terraced vineyards, grown on decomposed granite. This wine comes from his best blocks and is fermented in 500L oak casks for texture, but not too much oak signature.
Still tight at this stage, this wine shows delicious guava type fruit and amazing length. Will age spectacularly - an outstanding wine by any measure.
