Beronia lies in a priviledged spot in Rioja Alta, not far from Haro, and is surrounded by vineyards. Founded 40 years ago by a group of businessmen from San Sebastián, this winery has enjoyed considerable success and has grown to be a significant player in the region. They continue to innovate and as well as producing great examples of all the classic styles, also produce an interesting range of single varietals and some intriguing top wines. The house style cleverly walks the tightrope between traditional and modern, making wines that people enjoy drinking.
Gran Reservas are the elder statesmen of the wine world and until recently they seemed to be shuffled off down a dark alley, with younger trendier "Vinos de Autor" grabbing all the limelight and points! But as times change and people tired of turbocharged inky Riojas for silly prices, Gran Reservas are back and suddenly seeming like good value. Where else cany you buy top wines from a famous region that have been aged for long periods in barrel and then bottle in the winery itself, then sold when mature and ready to drink, for such reasonable prices? Soft and autumnal with real warmth and length.

Contino wines are masterful examples of Rioja, produced under the careful guidance of industry veteran Jesús Madrazo.
