Beronia lies in a priviledged spot in Rioja Alta, not far from Haro, and is surrounded by vineyards. Founded 40 years ago by a group of businessmen from San Sebastián, this winery has enjoyed considerable success and has grown to be a significant player in the region. They continue to innovate and as well as producing great examples of all the classic styles, also produce an interesting range of single varietals and some intriguing top wines. The house style cleverly walks the tightrope between traditional and modern, making wines that people enjoy drinking.
How you're supposed to pronounce this wine I'm not really sure "Tres AC" in Spanish, maybe "3 centuries BC" in English? Names aside, this is Beronia's top wine. From vineyards over 70 years old (some of which are pre-phylloxera), this is a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo, which after a cold soak underwent an alcoholic fermentation at 26C, before ageing for 15 months in new French oak. The resulting wine shows a lot of concentration and whilst perhaps a bit riper than the Beronia style, is no tannic monster, instead retaining the freshness and elegance that Beronia is known for. A very drinkable top wine which comes in an attractive case, making it the ideal gift for someone you'd like to impress.
