Fedellos do Couto Cortezada is a red wine produced in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra by the winery Fedellos do Couto in O Couto, Ourense.
The philosophy of these Fedellos (mischievous in Galician) is to respect the natural environment and the traditional agriculture, producing wines that reflect the terroir and the vintage with local Galician varieties. For this reason, 4 young winemakers decided to create the winery in 2013, in Ribeira Sacra, a great surrounding.
The cultivate 4 hectares of local varieties between Valle do Bibei and the river Sil. They also collaborate with winegrowers of the area. They implement organic cultivation, introducing biodynamic principles.
Fedellos do Couto Cortezada is a 100% Mencía del Pazo do Couto. The vineyard is 15 years old, and it is planted on terraced land in Ribeira do Sil, on sloping ground with an exquisite organic matter.
Harvest is performed by hand. Fermentation is carried out at low temperatures in stainless steel, with local yeasts and with the whole grape bunches. Aged for 12 months in old French oak barrels of different sizes.
Fedellos do Couto Cortezada is an elegant, fresh wine. The combination of ripe red fruits, typical from the Mediterranean, and the balsamic Atlantic freshness is amazing.
