La Rioja Alta is another absolute classic Riojan winery, yet despite being located where all the action is, in Haro's Barrio de la Estación, is often overlooked. But maybe they like it that way. Never one to be too showy and not the loudest voice at the party, this superb company has a peerless track record of great wines, enthusiastically written-up by Hemingway and the 2004 example gaining 96 points in The Wine Advocate.
This wine is fresh and still quite tight, perhaps at its best a few years from now. But it's so attractive now, tightly packed, welcoming yet elegant, restrained but so charming that it's hard to ignore. Pure class.
